About Arts from the Heart

These display units are part of the Hearty Lives Hull project and invite you to take part creatively using photography or creative writing.

Hearty Lives Hull is all about getting people to think about how important the heart is to a healthy life, both physically and emotionally. It asks you to think about the heart... what does your heart mean to you?

How to get involved

We are asking you to get creative and offer your thoughts based on the theme "the heart".

Think about what this theme means to you... take picture on your camera that captures something about "the heart". It might be a memory, it might be a picture of a loved one, it might be a symbol of a heart...it's up to you.

Or perhaps you have a favourite piece of poetry or song lyrics that really say something about the heart and feeling, or perhaps you could write it yourself.

Give it a go, enter and make your mark for the heart!

About Hearty Lives Hull

Hearty Lives Hull is the British Heart Foundations £1.5 million programme being delivered through NHS Hull and Hull City Council. Premature death rates from coronary heart disease are significantly higher in Hull than in the rest of Yorkshire and the England average. Currently, 1 in 6 deaths in Hull is due to coronary heart disease. Hearty Lives Hull aims to raise the awareness, motivate and challenge the population of Hull to aspire to better heart health.

We are raising awareness of heart health by:

  • Better access to a range of fun physical activity and sports led by community champions, including family events
  • The use of the arts to explore health beliefs and expectations, including this unit as a city-wide visual arts/writing project, community dance and a family narrative film project
  • Support for workplace health in small companies and unemployed groups in the community
  • Additional learning opportunities for secondary schools at lunchtimes and after school including healthy eating, physical activity and artificial resuscitation.
